Flautist Gillian Poznansky and pianist Mark Tanner regularly delight audiences all over the world with their tasteful recital programmes, well-honed ensemble and engaging stage personalities. They pride themselves on a pristine sound, which regardless of venue, captures the beauty, personality and style of the repertoire they've carefully chosen. For their work on cruise ships - the Duo have performed on roughly 40 cruises during the past dozen years - they often present themed programmes to reflect the culture and colour of the ports they are visiting.
In recent times they have performed at Wigmore Hall, London, St. George’s Bristol, Börnholm Summer Music Festival in Denmark, the Jerez de la Frontera Festival in Southern Spain, Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and the St Ives Festival, Cornwall. At sea they have given recitals on all of the Cunard, Saga and P&O ships.
Their CD recording, ‘Undiscovered Islands’, issued on Priory Records, featured the music of Graham Lynch and was selected by International Record Review as an ‘Outstanding Record of the Month’. The disc was Editor’s Choice in Pan Magazine and has also been aired regularly on BBC Radio 3, while attracting glowing reviews in other leading publications. Their most recent recording, for Priory Records, features five Sonatas by JS Bach.
Gillian and Mark are both busy academics, educators and examiners whose work regularly takes them to all continents. In 2018 they each travelled the equivalent to three times around the entire globe! Gillian examines grades and diplomas for Trinity College London and is Principle Examiner for OCR A Level Composition. Mark is a composer and writer, with 75 volumes of original music, transcriptions, arrangements and editions to his credit, published by Faber Music, Edition Peters, ABRSM Publishing, TCL Publishing and Spartan Press. His books, 'The Mindful Pianist’ (Faber) and 'Mindfulness in Music’ (Leaping Hare Press) are published in Spanish and Chinese respectively.
The Duo are based in Cornwall and Somerset, from where they enjoy busy musical lives amidst a large family and four cats. They are available for recitals on land and at sea, also masterclasses and workshops.
